"Xenia, which is Greek for hospitality, continues to be hospitable, family-oriented, business-friendly city and a tourist destination. Major employers located within the city are Greene County government and services because the city is the county seat. Xenia Community Schools and the Greene Memorial Hospital are also major employers. There are more than 50 private industries located in the city, providing a diversified industrial base. The Progress Center is a new commercial development that was completed in 2006. The center houses a Super Wal-Mart and Lowe's Home Improvement Center. An Applebee's restaurant is under construction and other retail development is being planned. New housing construction totaled 135 units in 2006 as there are 11 active developments in the area."
